ABOUT US

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Slavs share the same ancestry, same destiny and are defining a common purpose. The 1st Slavic Congress was held in Prague in 1848 and the most recent, the 9th, in Minsk in July 2005. Our Canadian Slav Committee is affiliated with the World Slav Congress, located in Prague and was represented at the Minsk conference. Our movement in Canada was strong during the first and especially the Second World War, when our peoples were threatened with extermination by Nazi Germany. Today, the need for a strong Slavic voice and representation is just as important for our survival. This is both, exciting and tumultuous time for any Slav to join our work. Canada is a multicultural society and provides space and freedom for all ethnic groups to express their identity and build relations with others. Similarly, C.S.C. aims to build and promote dialogue, ties and relationships among Slavic peoples in Canada, believing that it is in the interest of us all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 We believe that for the C.S.C., to fulfill its obligation
to the Canadian Slav community, all Slavic groups need to be
involved in its work. Please contact us to discuss your
individual or collective membership and secure your voice
or simply help us with a donation.

OUR LOGO

Canada is home for all the Slavic ethnic groups and hence,

 our logo is designed to represent them all. It is politically

and religiously neutral, since it is designed to foster Slavic

unity, the main objective of the Canadian Slav Committee (C.S.C.)

The shape of our logo is circle, indicating a whole as well as

the sun, giver of life, worshiped by ancient Slavs. Colours

thereon were chosen to represent all the colours of Slavic flags

today. This circle is divided into three equal parts, giving each

 major Slavic colour equal space. Between the colours, there is a

Y shaped symbol indicating the three branches of the Slavic

family, namely, southern, eastern and the western. This symbol is

 not a divider but rather unifier of the circle, just as the

spokes in a wheel strengthen the wheel. To indicate this,

the remaining two Slavic colours, yellow and green are used

alternately in a chain-like interlocking manner, denoting unity.

This pattern was an ancient Slavic ornament. The pattern is made

of Latin letter S (for Slav), which hooks up with other S letters

to make the chain and half of the letter S is Cyrillic letter C

which also stands for Slav.

At the bottom of the circle are two golden ears of wheat,

 giving the circle stability and representing sustenance for our

people. In the very centre of the two is the Canadian maple leaf

flag, the symbol of Canada. We also use an embroidery pattern to

honour our women and their contribution to our culture and

heritage.

S (Slav)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Canadian Slav Committee is a non profit Slavic umbrella
organization with interest in, and which protects the
interests of, all Slavic ethnic groups in Canada. It is first
and foremost an organization of the Slavs, by the Slavs and
for the Slavs in the Canadian context. While it draws heavily
on the past, Canadian Slav Committee focuses on contemporary
and future wellbeing of the Slav peoples. Although we
recognize the differences of various Slavic entities,
we place emphasis on our similarities, our common ancestry
and our mutual interests whenever possible. We believe that
working together can only result in common good and that
working independently or against each other can lead to ruin
of all.
In historical terms, the Slavs have shielded Europe from
Asiatic barbaric hordes in earlier times and in recent
centuries; Slavic lands were turned into graveyards
for all kinds of European expansionist, suicidal and
conquering megalomaniacs. When granted peace, Slavic
peoples have enriched world civilization with immense
and often unmatched achievements in all facets of human
endeavor, including the opening of space exploration.
We maintain that Slavic genius and accomplishments are not
achieved exclusively in our ancestral lands but are possible
wherever Slavs live and conditions allow.
Canadian Slavs have persevered in building Canada under
tremendous odds in a harsh social, climactic and economic
environment and their achievements and sacrifices are begging
to be recognized to this day. We are Slavs who have made
Canada our home and we ask for our rightful and deserved
place among peoples inhabiting Canada. We are a unique
and distinct entity in the Canadian ethno-cultural mosaic
and want to alert the Government of Canada to our needs
and ideals in the interest of promoting Canadian democracy
and justice. Moreover, we want Canada to play a peaceful,
positive and constructive role with respect to our ancestral
countries and desist from any military action against any
of them. We encourage trade, academic, scientific, sports,
cultural and other exchanges between Canada and Slavic
countries as long as they are based on equality, mutual
respect, sovereignty and non-interference in each other’s
affairs. We strongly believe that the Slavic peoples in
their respective countries have an inalienable right to
self governance without foreign interference or pressure
to incorporate foreign value systems or harmful and divisive
alien ideology. We view Slavic territorial integrity as
sacrosanct and condemn all acts of aggression or territorial
violation of Slavic lands as an attack on all Slavs.
