According to the CDC, nearly one million adults aged 55-plus have epilepsy. For their caregivers, it’s a serious cause for concern. You might find yourself wondering what would happen if they had a seizure when no one was there to help.
That’s where a reliable medical alert system comes in. A medical alert button makes it easier for seniors to get help if they need it. With a medical alert device, there’s much less risk of a person being left alone after a seizure or any other emergency such as a slip or fall. With one of these systems, trained staff are on hand to dispatch help as needed.

Aloe Care Health is one of the newest medical alert providers, and its systems impressed me through their sophisticated voice commands and compatibility with the Aloe Care Health app.
Central to any Aloe Care system is their smartphone app. When signed in, you can keep track of your loved one’s activity levels and at any time they’ve used their system to make emergency calls. What’s more, you can even use the app to make check-in calls to the Aloe Care Health system.
For people with epilepsy, I’d recommend investing in Aloe Care Health’s Total Care package. This system includes a voice-activated base unit, a wearable help button, a wall-mounted fall sensor, two motion sensors, and a mobile unit with built-in fall detection. This system is ideal for a person who wants protection both in their home and on the go.
Aloe Care Health prices are a bit higher than average, starting at $29.99 per month (plus a $149.99 one-time equipment fee). Still, there is no other medical alert system with as much detailed caregiver tracking, making this system ideal for those caring for loved ones with epilepsy.

It’s hard to find cons for Bay Alarm, but some of their equipment is rather old-fashioned looking, potentially making some users shy about wearing their help buttons. Still, Bay Alarm offers an excellent at-home system that has both fall detection and voice-activated buttons for maximum protection.
Medical Guardian offers an impressive range of mobile alerts for both inside and outside the home. What’s more, their monitoring agents answered my calls in an average of eight seconds.
Medical Guardian’s Active Guardian system is ideal for seniors with epilepsy. It’s an all-in-one mobile device, so there’s no need to remember to wear a separate button; plus it has fall detection, which not all mobile alerts do. This device is also rated IPX7 in terms of water resistance, which allowed it to function even when I took it in the shower. What’s more, in our tests, the Active Guardian’s battery life lasted about six days on a single charge, one of the longest I’ve seen in these types of devices.
Medical Guardian prices start at $29.95 per month for their in-home system, and the Active Guardian costs $44.95 per month. Fall detection for either system costs an additional $10 per month. Luckily, there are no upfront equipment costs with Medical Guardian, as your leasing fee is included with your subscription.

In terms of cons, some of the pricing options are a little steep — monitored options are mostly in the $40-$50 range. The initial $99 outlay will put some people off, too, as many alerts don’t require an upfront fee. Still, RescueTouch systems are super easy to use and great for those who don’t want to wear a typical medical alert.

Bay Alarm’s in-home system offers both fall detection and voice-activated wall buttons for all-around protection. Both of these would come in handy for a user who has fallen and is unable to press a button for help. Included with Bay Alarm’s in-home system are a wearable button and base station. You also have the option of adding additional wall or voice help buttons, making this system great for spouse protection.
Starting at $19.95 monthly, Bay Alarm Medical costs less than most medical alert companies. In fact, they’re one of my favorite cheap medical alert systems. While fall detection will cost you an extra $10 per month, their systems require no long-term contracts, and they even offer a 30-day risk-free trial period on their systems.
It’s hard to find cons for Bay Alarm, although some of their equipment looks rather old-fashioned. Thay may potentially make some users shy about wearing their help buttons. In terms of drawbacks, some people might find the starting price of $49.99 per month a bit pricey; however, I think that all of the stellar features of the Active Guardian make it one of the best choices for seniors who live an active lifestyle.
