Slavic poetry gift and

presentation

Presentation of Slavic poetry volumes by Mr. Sergey Glovyuk

On December 2, 2009, the PJRC received a visit by the Moscow poet and translator Sergey Glovyuk.  He came to present to the University of Toronto Libraries autographed copies of nine anthology volumes of Slavic poetry—Macedonian, Serbian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Czech, Bulgarian, Slovak, Croatian, and Slovenian—translated into the Russian language.  All the poetry is by contemporary writers (i.e. those writing in the 20th and 21st century).

Mr. Glovyuk is a correspondent for Literaturnaia gazeta, member of the Union of Writers in the Russian Federation, and the author of the poetry collections Glotok (1991), Tochka vozvrata (1997), and Staraia moneta (2008).  He is also the chief editor of the book series “From Century to Century” (Iz veka v vek) that is funded by the Russian Ministry of Culture and which makes Slavic literature broadly accessible to Russian readers.  Future volumes in the series will focus on Polish, Slovenian, and other Slavic poetry.  Mr. Glovyuk has been recognized for his translations and received awards from the Unions of Writers in Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia.

Mr. Glovyuk’s visit to Canada was sponsored by the Canadian Slav Committee and the Canadian Serbian Association of Writers “Desanna Maksimović”.  He was accompanied by Mike Celik, chairman of the Canadian Slav Commitee and by Katarina Kostic, president of the Canadian Serbian Association of Writers.

Ksenya Kiebuzinski, Head, Petro Jacyk Resource Centre, accepted the gift volumes on behalf of the University of Toronto Libraries.  She also provided Mr. Glovyuk and his guests a tour of the Centre and the Robarts Library.

Serbian Kosovo

It is a well known fact that Kosovo and Metohija are part of Serbia taken by force by imperialist powers. Kosovo was illegally severed from Serbia and given to an alien people who come from neighbouring Albania. Kosovo was never Albanian and always Serbian. The United Nations Organization resolution 1244 states that Kosovo must be returned to Serbia. Stolen land can never become alienated buy thievery, no matter how strong the aggressor is. More on this will be written on other pages but here we want to ask you for help in saying KOSOVO IS SERBIA in all the languages of the world. We know that Kosovo will one day be restored to Serbia as no Slav anywhere will rest until all stolen Slavic land is returned to the Slavic peoples. This is universally true for all Slavic lands anywhere, wherever it may be. Let us add new languages to the slogan KOSOVO IS SERBIA!
